The Cultural Heritage Technology Enhancement Initiative
The Cultural Heritage Technology Enhancement Initiative is designed to promote improvements in the efficiency, ease of use, robustness, cost effectiveness, and evidential reliability of digital imaging techniques.
The Cultural Heritage Technology Enhancement Initiative is based on the following concepts:
 |
Documentary methods should produce confidence in the accuracy of digital representations of cultural material. |
 |
Many technological innovations useful in cultural heritage documentation await creation. |
 |
New digital imaging tools and methods are continually emerging in many fields. |
 |
Many technological innovations were originally developed for other purposes and require adaptation to be useful in cultural heritage documentation. |
 |
The more discussion about and information regarding the development of cultural heritage imaging tools and methods the better. |
 |
The value of improved digital documentation and presentation methods for cultural heritage material is great and can generate support to continue cultural heritage programs. |
CHI's role:
CHI is always willing to talk to those involved in cultural heritage imaging research or the development of core imaging technologies for potential digital imaging improvements and applications. Contact Us
Through its web site CHI intends to provide a forum for those interested in developing and learning about new imaging techniques and methods. The web site will also report on advances in digital imaging and new imaging application concepts.
CHI is willing to collaborate in the technology development process through the design of novel documentary approaches, and hands on testing of new concepts or tools. Tools and methods that have the potential to enhance the evidential reliability of digital documentation receive top priority. Consulting service fees may be waived or reduced in certain non-commercial circumstances where significant public benefit is present.
CHI, as a 501(c)(3) corporation, may be able to help secure funding for collaborative cultural heritage technology development projects, or administer funds for organizations without this status, if the project fits within CHI's mission and priorities.
CHI consulting may also be available for commercial developers on a fee for service, non-tax exempt basis, depending on staff availability.
